16 Then And Now Photos In New Hampshire That Show Just How Much It Has Changed

Over the hundreds of years since Euopeans settled in New Hampshire, life in The Granite State has changed quite a bit. From bustling mills transformed into modern apartments, to basic ski equipment that we wouldn’t even recognize today, these historic New Hampshire photos will show you how much things have changed. However, you’ll notice that some interests and hobbies in The Granite State have stood the test of time.

1. In Berlin, the Androscoggin River has changed from powering mills to powering an electrical plant.

2. The showshoeing fashions and gear sure have changed since the 1930s!

3. On the Cog Railway up Mount Washington the cars have changed color but the route is still exactly the same and just as steep.

4. Downtown Derry is more colorful nowadays, but you can still recognize its routes.

5. At the Wentworth by the Sea in New Castle the red valences of the 1930s have been replaced with chic elegance and modern yachts.

6. We still love to drive up to our camp sites, although the cars and tents have changed quite a bit since the 1940s.

7. The New Hampshire ski hills were crowded in the early 1900s, but those crowds wouldn't recognize the modern slopes and top-notch gear that we have today.

8. New Hampshirites still love spending time with their friends on the lake, but the outfits sure have changed.
