When November rolls around we’ve got two things on our minds: turkey and the upcoming holidays! And while getting through the initial shock of the first snow and frigid temps can be hard, it’s nice to know that we live in a place that makes this time of year so special. If you’re looking for a way to jump-start your holiday spirit, make your way to these towns that know just how to make the season sparkle.
Stark is the quintessential New England small town, but we love it at Christmas for a lot of reasons! The biggest is the annual tradition of lighting up the Stark Covered Bridge, which crosses the Upper Ammonoosuc River. At night this is a sight to behold and it's worth the trip from wherever you are.
Perhaps best known for the Castle in the Clouds, Moltonborough is picture-perfect in the winter. Unfortunately, the annual "Christmas at the Castle" event is cancelled for 2020, but will return next year. The team is still working on coming up with alternative options to celebrate, so be sure to check their website here for all the latest.
Jackson is a perfect New Hampshire town to visit any time of year, but in December it's decked out in holiday splendor. To make things special, plan on visiting the Christmas Farm Inn and Spa to take advantage of their holiday traditions and the ultimate in holiday decor! Check them out here.
All you need to do to take in the holiday spirit in Hanover is drive through the center of town. Bonus points if there's snow on the ground! This college town is quaint and beautiful this time of year. Make sure you visit Dartmouth Green to see the Christmas tree, too!
Things this year are a lot different than we're used to, but that doesn't mean the holidays can't still be special. Head to Keene to support local businesses while shopping for your gifts this year. The ambiance is perfect, especially once the sun goes down!
Portsmouth is adorable all year-round, but we love it especially in December. The month-long "Vintage Christmas" celebration includes music, shopping, skating and more and you've got 31 days to experience it! Advanced tickets are required and you can learn more here.
Each year the town of Nashua puts on a wonderful Winter Holiday Stroll. In fact, locals look forward to it all year and those from further away make plans to visit. This year the event has been put on hold, but that doesn't mean you can't safely visit. Come to do your holiday shopping and take in the lights! Click here for more information on what you can do this year and when the event will begin again next year.
