Sometimes there’s no better way to see the New Hampshire scenery than to let another driver take the wheel. In this case, it’s the engineer who will be leading the way for this tour of the state’s Lakes Region by rail.
Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad makes a two-hour ride starting in Meredith. It heads north along the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire's largest bosy of water at 72 square miles in size.
The ride starts out in the scenic lakeside town of Meredith. This small village was one of the first towns to have a charter granted in the mid-1700s.
Passengers will enjoy some of the finest scenery in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. The train follows close to the coast of Lake Winnipesaukee for about half of its journey.

When not passing by the lake, scenery along the trip includes the New Hampshire countryside. Bring a lunch aboard, sit back, and enjoy the ride.
At the northern end of the trip, the train reaches its end at Lakeport, a village in the town of Laconia. This is an old mill town that was first settled in the mid-1700s and incorporated in 1855.
