New Hampshire is know for its mountains and its lakes, but we think of them as separate, with the Lakes Region being south of the mountains. However, there is one place in New Hampshire where the lakes and the mountains come together in a dramatic fashion, forming a perfect piece of paradise. This little slice of paradise in New Hampshire is demanding your attention.
Lakes of the Clouds in Sargent's Purchase are a series of lakes and ponds nestled between Mount Washington and Mount Monroe, 5,032 feet above sea level.

Water, sky, and mountains all come together for a truly unique view.
And offer much-needed relief for sore and tired hikers.
The lakes are beautiful, but the larger view is just as breathtaking.
The lakes are home to the Lakes of the Clouds Hut, the largest and most popular lodge operated by The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC).
Here, hikers can enjoy a night's sleep and a solid meal before summiting Mount Washington or continuing their journey on the Appalachian Trail.

For day hikers, the most direct route to the lakes is via the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail, which leaves from Base Station Road in Jefferson. From there it is a 3.1 mile, 3-hour hike, which is steep. The faint of heart may enjoy overlooking the lakes from the peak of Mount Washington, which can be reached by car, train, or foot.
