The region’s small towns are great destinations to explore for their quaint charm, hidden treasures, and rich history. One such town is New London, and it’s a place you should put on your to-do list for a New Hampshire small-town day trip.

New London was originally granted under the name of "Heidelberg," but was never settled as such. The present town was later incorporated in 1779.

Colby-Sawyer College is situated on a hill near the center of town. This private baccalaureate college was founded in 1837.

The town has an excellent hiking trail network that covers nearly 26 miles. Great Brook Trail and its cascades are a favorite walk of mine in spring.

An unusual attraction in town is The Ice House Museum. It's a collection of old vehicles, bicycles, working tools and machinery, and children's toys.
