New Hampshire is full of historic homes, and we all love touring them, ogling the decorations and architecture, and imagining life inside. After a while, though, all of the colonial homes and ship-builders mansions can start to blend together a bit. If you’re looking tor a home tour that’s totally unique, you have to check out the one home in New England designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright that’s open to the public. It’ll knock your socks off!

The Zimmerman house, located in the residential north end of Manchester, was designed in 1950 for Dr. Isadore and Lucille Zimmerman by Frank Lloyd Wright. The house has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979, and was left to the Currier Museum of Art in 1988.

The house was designed in the style Wright called "usonian," which referred to small, usually one-story homes built for middle-income families. One of the characteristics of this type of home is a close connection between the interior and exterior. The low profile of the homes is designed to blend right into the landscape, like this home does.

The Zimmerman House is located at 223 Heather Street in Manchester, but to tour it you’ll need to start at the Currier Museum of Art at 150 Ash Street. Advance reservations for tours are required – visit the museum’s website to book yours!
