This New Hampshire Country Store Will Transport You Back In Time
There’s something about the charm of an old-fashioned country store that seems universal. Even if you grew up long after these stores were mostly replaced by big-box chains, they somehow bring you right back to an era when the cashier knew everyone’s name and a trip to the store meant catching up on all the town gossip. Luckily, that charm is not all gone! Right here in New Hampshire we have a country store that might just be the oldest still in operation in the country.
Moltonborough's Old Country Store has been a store since at least 1781 (records are spotty before that) and at various times also served as the site of town meetings, a post office, and a library.
You'll find all sorts of treats stashed away in old-fashioned cabinets - the owners have done their best to maintain the air of history about the place.
You'll love the candy counter, especially if you grew up in the era when these were much more widespread! They stock all your childhood favorites, and more.
The holidays are a perfect time to visit. The store sets up a great Christmas display, and of course it's a perfect place to get those unique presents and fantastic stocking stuffers!
