These 7 Haunted Cemetery Stories In New Hampshire Are Not For the Faint of Heart
New Hampshire’s history is fascinating. Of course, it dates back for centuries which is why there are so many stories to be shared and passed down to younger generations. We’ve all grown up hearing tales of the past, but it’s the spookier ghost stories that always stick in our minds. These cemeteries are important parts of the towns in which they sit, but they’re not without their own spooky tales.
The stories that have emerged from this cemetery make us believe that folks aren't actually supposed to visit if they're not wanted. Folks have reported feeling a sensation of being pushed backwards when trying to enter. And, when they do enter, people have said it feels like walking through water or mud the further in they walk.
The stories from this cemetery actually include the area around it. Folks say that as they approach it from Stark Road it feels as though they're being followed by eyes. Could it be those of General John Stark, buried here? Perhaps. Others have said that the inside seems to glow at night.
This impressive cemetery offers a glimpse into New Hampshire history. It's the oldest in the state! But it also comes with its fair share of spooky tales. Folks have said that the tombstone of a local, Dr. Vaughn, will glow when it's photographed on film. Others have reported hearing footsteps following them as they walk among the paths. Not so strange until you hear that these people were on their own.
One of the scariest stories to come out of New Hampshire takes us all the way to this cemetery. The Smuttynose Murders, which took place on the Isle of Shoals was one of the most ghastly crimes in the state. The victims are buried here.
In addition to the feeling of unexplained cold, visitors here say that eerie blue lights seem to emanate from the ground behind a grave and then sink back into the ground. It doesn't appear to have ever been caught on camera, though.
This might just be the most well-known cemetery in the state. It's famous for its residents, the Blood family. In addition to that spooky surname, it's also been reported that the heaven-pointing finger on Abel Blood's tombstone actually points down at night!
The haunting stories that come from this cemetery actually include the Summer Knight Chapel that's located on the same grounds. Folks have said that the spirit in the chapel isn't always nice. But venture into the cemetery itself and you might run into a young girl who is said to walk around the area. And while we can't be certain that this story wasn't invented by parents who wanted their kids to speak nicely, it's also said that those who curse outside the chapel will end up having their mouths washed with soap!
