1. Taqueria Fuentes, 3391 US Hwy. 50 E., Carson City (775) 461-3606
Editor's Note: Unfortunately, Taqueria Fuentes has permanently closed. Skip this stop and continue on to the next one! This small family-owned, hole-in-the-wall taqueria is tucked away near a gas station yet gets rave reviews. In addition to other Mexican delights like menudo and homemade corn tortillas, Taqueria Fuentes' insanely delicious tacos (such as the buche, or pork stomach, tacos, pictured) keep locals and tourists coming back for more.
2. El Original Tacos Tijuana, 2201 Prater Way, Sparks (775) 358-0843
Enjoy some of the most authentic Mexican street tacos this side of the border. From cabeza to pollo to asada to tripa to saudero - your tastebuds are in for a treat.
3. Tacos El Rey, 5100 Mae Anne Ave., Reno (775) 787-1818
While everything on the menu is muy delicioso, among this unassuming taco shop's most popular items are the spicy pork tacos al pastor and the carne asada street tacos (pictured.)
4. Azteca Grill & Bakery, 1740 W. Williams Ave., Fallon (775) 423-4964
This little unassuming taqueria serves the most delicious tacos with your choice of meat. The lengua (tongue) and carne asada are quite popular, as is Azteca's rice and beans. Oh, don't forget to leave room for dessert as Azteca has oodles of baked sweets to end a delightful meal.
5. El Aguila Real, 254 E. Front St., Battle Mountain (775) 635-8390
While this small Mexican eatery features many traditional Mexican dishes, its tacos always receive consistently high marks, especially the carne asada tacos (pictured.)
6. Tacos Las Brisas, 217 W. Idaho St., Elko (775) 934-0732
This local family-owned and operated taco truck has been serving authentic and delicious tacos (and other Mexican staples) around Elko for over 15 years. Customers rave about its carne asada, pork adobada, and carnitas - as well as the spicy homemade salsa.
7. La Fiesta, 700 Avenue H, Ely (775) 289-4114
This low-key, simple Mexican restaurant in the middle of Nevada serves among the best tacos in the state. Also earning high marks is La Fiesta's unique cabbage salsa.
8. El Coyote Charro, 325 N. Sandhill Blvd., Mesquite (702) 346-2858
This unassuming taco joint located next to a gas station (seems to be a popular theme) has the most delicious al pastor and carne asada tacos. As it's usually always crowded, make sure you give yourself enough time to eat. You won't regret it!
9. Chile Caliente Tacos y Mariscos, 1017 Whitney Ranch Dr., Henderson (702) 625-9190
This neighborhood taco joint and seafood restaurant serves the best carne asada, carnitas, al pastore, and fish (pictured) tacos in southern Nevada.
10. Taco y Taco Mexican Eatery, 3430 E. Tropicana Ave., Las Vegas (702) 331-3015
If you love Mexican street tacos, this is the place for you. From lengua to carnitas to carne asada to al pastor to pollo, this little Mexican eatery is certainly a taste of heaven (el cielo.)
