This 5.8-mile, heavily trafficked, moderate, out-and-back trail offers stunning views during its nearly 1,300-foot climb, a waterfall at the end, and is dog- and horse-friendly. Make sure you take hydration packs, snacks, sunscreen, a hat, and wear comfortable yet sturdy hiking shoes. Also, keep an eye out for snakes and bears which have been seen from time to time.
It's a pretty mild hike; however, you do have to cross the creek a few times. At each juncture, there are wood planks or stepping stones (pictured.) Of course, you can traipse through the water if you want to. (Waterproof shoes would be a good idea.)
The waterfall is about 50 feet high and has a small pool at its base. This is a perfect place for a picnic as downed trees provide seating, and the shadows cast by tall trees make the area quite comfortable.
The best time to take this amazing waterfall hike is between May and October; however, many people venture upon this trail all year long depending on the weather. Regulars to the area recommend starting early, especially in the summer, to avoid too much direct sun and to beat the rush.
