Many visitors are surprised to see such a bountiful farm located in the middle of the southern Nevada desert. Gilcrase Orchard is definitely a unique destination and a lot of work has gone into preserving this piece of land over the years.
Gilcrease Orchard has been a family-owned and operated venture since it began in 1920. At one point, the Gilcrease family owned more than 1,500-acres of land and cultivated about 200 acres. However, due to financial setbacks they had to sell a lot of their property.
Despite their difficulties, Gilcrease Orchard has persisted. Today, the farm is considered some of the most fertile farming land in the area. It's become a go-to destination for many local families looking to get there hands on some farm-fresh produce.
What crops are available at the farm completely depends on what time of year you visit. They grow a variety of crops including apricots, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, peaches, cucumbers, squash, and so much more. Swing by on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to explore and pick whatever calls to you.
Remember that days in the Las Vegas Valley can get extremely hot, and hats, sunscreen, and water are highly recommended. Good walking shoes are also suggested, since you'll be doing quite a bit of walking to all of the different produce areas.
