The Magical Christmas Village Everyone in Nevada Should Visit at Least Once
There are all different kinds of holiday light celebrations around the state. What makes the Magical Forest unique is not only the size and complexity, but also the incredible cause supported by the work of the volunteers and annual participants.
The Magical Forest is a much loved institution in Las Vegas. The event is now celebrating its 25th year.
The Magical Forest is set up on the grounds of the campus of Opportunity Village, a non-profit dedicated to assisting people with intellectual disabilities.
The proceeds of the Magical Forest go to funding OV's programs for children and adults, which are provided free of charge to almost 3,000 residents. OV runs several businesses to raise funds and employ the people they support. As a result, OV employs more individuals with disabilities than any other company in Nevada.
Over 120,000 visitors come to the Magical Forest each year. It has even been featured on television shows on the Discovery Channel and it was called a "Top Holiday Destination" by HGTV.
Volunteers make up a huge part of the Magical Forest's success. Approximately 70 to 90 people are needed to run the event each night, and the event generally runs for 50 nights each year.
There are more than 3 million lights used in the event.
The Magical Forest is more than just lights! There are many types of games and rides such as Cheyenne's Enchanted Carousel.
There's a "Forest Express" passenger train that winds its way through the forest. Children can enjoy the Avalance Slide, Rudolph's Raceway, and Rod's Mini Golf. Many nights also feature musical entertainment. For music lovers, a fun fact! One of OV's businesses, staffed by people with intellectual disabilities, were the makers of Elvis' scarves, as well as the buttons that were given out to people attending his performances at the Hilton.
Food and drink is also available for purchase, including some incredible funnel cake and other holiday treats.
The Magical Forest is open every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas from November 19 through January 1st.
Tickets are $11.99 for adults, and $9.99 for children. Ride tickets must be purchased separately or you buy a passport that includes rides - $21.99 for adults and $18.99 for children. Parking is free and the forest opens at 5:30 pm.
The Magical Forest is located at Opportunity Village, 6300 West Oakey Boulevard in Las Vegas. The Opportunity Village campus is located just behind the College of Southern Nevada’s campus and parking lot, between Rainbow and Jones.
