Many odd and spooky things happen here in Nevada, making it one of the most haunted places in the U.S. Of all the cities in the Silver State, Virginia City is definitely the most haunted. This city is also a well-known haunted destination for paranormal investigators.
There are many different places located throughout Nevada that make it the most terrifying, spookiest state. Let’s take a look at 11 of these spooky places.
1. Silver Queen Hotel - Virginia City
Supposedly, this hotel is haunted by a woman named Rosie; a prostitute who committed suicide in Room 11.
2. Governor's Mansion - Carson City
The Governor's Mansion was first occupied in 1909 by the family of Governor Dickerson. The ghosts of his wife, Una, and his daughter, June, have been seen roaming the mansion.
3. Mizpah Hotel - Tonopah
It's believed that the Mizpah Hotel is haunted by a few prostitutes from its early days. The most famous prostitute, "Lady in Red," is known to touch men's hair or rub up against them.
4. St. Mary's Art Center - Virginia City
St. Mary's Art Center, which was formerly the St. Mary Louise Hospital, is rumored to be visited by ghosts of hospital staff from its early days. Several apparitions have been spotted inside the building, as well as on the front lawn. Heavy footsteps, rolling gurneys and ladies' voices have also been heard down the halls.
5. Goldfield Hotel - Goldfield
This historic hotel has been featured on many television shows because it supposedly has a lot of paranormal activity going on. It's believed that Room 109 is haunted by a pregnant woman, and there's also a ghost that stabs hotel visitors.
6. Boulder Dam Hotel - Boulder City
At this historic hotel, many visitors have witnessed several ghostly activities such as the feeling of a hand on their shoulder or hands coming through the floor and grabbing one of their ankles.
7. Mackay Mansion - Virginia City
The spirits of several former residents of this mansion can be seen hanging around.
8. Yellow Jacket Mine - Gold Hill
In 1869, a devastating fire took place at this mine, killing more than 35 miners. Not all of their bodies were recovered. Supposedly, the spirits of 11 miners stayed behind to haunt the mine.
9. Old Washoe Club - Virginia City
What was once a bar for wealthy men, is now believed to be extremely haunted. The ghosts that have been reported here include a teenage girl who was killed in the basement, a blonde prostitute who was killed on the third floor, and the prostitute's killer who committed suicide on the second floor.
10. Luxor Hotel & Casino - Las Vegas
Supposedly, the ghost of a former workman who died during the construction of the Luxor Hotel & Casino haunts the hotel's corridors.
11. Sugarloaf Mountain Motel - Virginia City
Inside Sugarloaf Mountain Motel's "Doll Room," guests have reported hearing creepy things such as heavy breathing, loud footsteps and the opening and closing of doors.
