This idyllic wildlife refuge can be found just south of the small town of Alamo. Consisting of 5,380 acres of lakes, meadows, wetlands, and marshes, the refuge is a true natural oasis hiding in the Mojave Desert. With so much to see, you simply won't know where to start.
The refuge is a valuable habitat for all kinds of wildlife, so keep your eyes peeled for the various critters that call Pahranagat their home. On top of thousands of migratory birds and several birds of prey, the refuge contains animals like deer, reptiles, small mammals, and rare fish.
In fact, the refuge is a popular birding destination for the fact that it's located on the Pacific Flyway, a notable north-south migratory path that stretches along the continent's western coast. Spring and fall are the best time of year to visit the refuge since this is when many different bird species arrive.
Additionally, bodies of water like Upper Lake and Middle Marsh make for picture-perfect landscapes within the sprawling refuge. Free camping is available at designated campsites along Upper Lake and they are definitely in the running for Nevada's dreamiest camping spots.
