This Old-Fashioned Soda Fountain In Nevada Will Transport You Back In Time
An old-fashioned soda fountain lives on at Economy Drug in Ely, Nevada. The family-owned drug store and soda fountain offers a genuine blast from the past with friendly service, delicious treats and old-timey charm.
Economy Drug has been owned by the same family since 1946.
Attached to independent pharmacies, soda fountains boomed during prohibition and began to fade away by the end of the 1950s - the fast food restaurant craze delivering the fatal blow.
There's also a soda fountain in nearby McGill, but it's part of a preserved pharmacy that closed in the 1970s and is now open as a museum by appointment only.

Economy Drug burnt down in 1956, but has since been rebuilt with expansions and renovations.
During one of the drug store’s renovations, the family added a toy store in the basement. The drug store, toy store and old-fashioned soda fountain are a popular destination among Ely residents and visitors alike.
