Second of all, entering this place is like walking into a living, breathing history book. This place truly encompasses our state’s history and culture, and visiting it is a must for any Nevadan. Located in Elko, this museum is a must for everyone—not just history enthusiasts. This wonderful place has been preserving the region's heritage for more than 50 years through a variety of both permanent and rotating exhibits.
First of all, there's an actual Pony Express Station located just out front. This old cabin was erected roughly 60 miles southwest of Elko and it was here that Pony Express riders would rest and exchange mounts before continuing on.
Walking into this place is really like stumbling into a real life history book. Several of the museum's permanent exhibits will have you mesmerized with their century-old artifacts.
However, the museum's most unique feature is The Wanamaker Wildlife Exhibit. Featuring hundreds of animals from all across the globe, there's something strangely bizarre yet utterly fascinating about this large portion of the museum.
Elko residents will be fascinated by the history gallery that exhibits the story of northeast Nevada's earliest residents. It's here that you'll find awesome artifacts like the original printing press from the Elko Daily Free Press, along with other items pertaining to mining, ranching, and daily life.
