The lake is accessible by a 3.7-mile out-and-back trail which provides the perfect introduction to the natural wonder that is the Ruby Mountains. The hike, although relatively short, provides fantastic views from beginning to end.

The trailhead can be found within Lamoille Canyon, about a half hour drive from Elko. To get there, take Highway 227 southeast from Elko. Follow the signs into the canyon and drive until you reach the end of the road. This is where you'll find a parking lot and the trailhead.

There are technically two trails that lead to Lamoille Lake. One is for hikers and the other for equestrians. The hiker trail is considered the most scenic of the two and leads you through groves of pine trees and across Lamoille Creek.
