You can’t help but feel like you’ve been transported to the days of the Old West as you walk down its streets, especially if you end up in the famous Red Dog Saloon. This historic saloon is just one of many in town, but it’s one of the most popular stops in Virginia City for good reason. Check it out and prepare to be transported back to another era!
Party like it's the 1860s when you visit the historic destination in Virginia City known as the Red Dog Saloon. This restaurant, bar, and music venue is chock full of Comstock history and visiting it feels like traveling to a bygone era.
The Red Dog Saloon is by far one of the most hopping places in Virginia City. Not only is it a great place to grab some grub, but it's also a music venue where you can catch live nightly performances.
The building was originally a hotel called the Comstock House which housed Gold Rush-era prospectors. It operated well into the 19th century, but it wasn't until the 1960s when the saloon really made a name for itself. That's because it famously played a role in the history of the psychedelic music scene.
It's evident there's a LOT of history inside this saloon! From the Wild West decor to the photographs lining the walls of Virginia City's early days, visiting this saloon feels like an escape into the past. However, its historic charm isn't the only thing there is to love.
Today, the Red Dog Saloon is just as lively as ever. Hosting open mic on Wednesday evenings along with live performances on the weekends, the saloon has certainly held onto its prominent role in the music scene.
Plus, the food is absolutely delicious. Open for both lunch and dinner, you'll find tried and true classics on the menu like pizza, chicken wings, sandwiches, fish and chips, and so much more.
