These 12 Hikes In Nevada Offer The BEST City Views
Nevada is filled with mountain ranges and hiking trails. Sometimes they are a total escape, leading hikers into the wilderness. Other times these Nevada hiking trails lead you to high summits that overlook the entire city skyline. Here are 12 of the best hikes with city views in Nevada:
1. Calico Tanks Red Rock Canyon – Las Vegas
This moderately difficult hike starts from Sandstone Quarry Trailhead, located 2.5 miles from the start of the 13-mile Red Rock Scenic Loop in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Parking and restrooms are available.
2. Bartley Ranch Regional Park Hike And Overlook - Reno
The hike is easily accessible at the park, 6000 Bartley Ranch Road. There is free parking. Restrooms are available.
3. Red Mountain & Black Mountain – Boulder City
Take U.S. 93 to bypass downtown Boulder City to the River Mountain Trail (on your left). At the top of the summit, you can turn left toward Red Mountain (above) or right toward Black Mountain (below).
4. Black Mountain Trail – Henderson
This moderate 5.6-mile back trail, accessible from September until May, starts at Shadow Canyon Road in Anthem.
5. Tahoe Rim Trail: Kingsbury South Section – Incline Village
Parking is available in the Heavenly Stagecoach lot.
6. C Hill Loop Trail – Carson City
Named for the "C" (for Carson City) located on the mountain’s east side, the trail with the best views of the city is a loop starting on the north side off Canterbury Lane. There is a parking area and the trail starts about ¼-mile away.
7. Geiger Lookout at Wayside Park - Reno
Starts south of Reno, off Highway 395.
8. Lone Mountain Loop - Summerlin
Lone Mountain Loop is located in Lone Mountain Park. The 3.3-mile loop trail is easily accessible for kids and dogs.
9. Elko Mountain hike - Elko
Not to be confused with the hill with the white “E,” Elko Mountain is located in northeastern Nevada about 8 miles northeast of Elko.
10. Frenchman Mountain trail – Las Vegas
Follow Lake Mead Blvd east into the mountain and park before the gate. The trail begins at a gravel road leading south.
11. Prison Trail – Carson City
Hiking is allowed on the northern end, located off of Fairview Drive, East Fifth Street and Carson River Road.
12. The Riverwalk Exploration Trail - Laughlin
A paved trail, the Riverwalk Exploration Trail parallels the Colorado River along the border of Nevada and Arizona. Parking is available at the trail's southern and northern ends.
