With a peak population of 20,000 people, Goldfield was a true boomtown and it was far from your average mining camp. Known as "The World's Greatest Gold Camp", it was comprised of schools, businesses, hotels, and the Esmeralda County Courthouse along with many, many other structures.

The school originally opened in 1907, around the peak of Goldfield's prosperity. It may look pretty worn today, but back then the three-story brick structure was definitely an impressive sight. In fact, it was the largest high school in all of Nevada at the time.
The school officially closed its doors in 1952 and has sat mostly empty ever since. One amazing thing is how much of the building is actually still intact, including desks, chairs, and even original chalkboards. The Goldfield Historical Society has worked to restore this stately building since 2008.
Tours of the school are given by appointment only.
