At some point, everyone has a sense of nostalgia for things past. When one thinks of the quintessential general store, one (at least I do) think about the Oleson’s Mercantile from Little House on the Prairie. In Nevada—especially during the gold and silver rush of the 1800’s—the general store was a staple of small, mining town living. Anacabe’s-Elko General Merchandise Co. is an old-fashioned general store in downtown Elko that has withstood the test of time. For 80 years, it has been providing work boots, clothing, and other necessities.

If you’re looking for a blast from the past, a visit to Anacabe’s-Elko General Merchandise Co. should be high atop your “To Do” list. Have you visited this delightful general store? If so, please share your thoughts and experiences below.
