The holiday is observed on the last Friday of every October. All state and local government offices are closed and most schools and libraries, as well as many private businesses.
Most state residents will celebrate the holiday with a parade. The 2016 Nevada Day Parade is on October 29. This will be the 77th year the parade, run by volunteers, will march through the capital streets.
Another way to celebrate Nevada Day is to visit many of the historical sites in Carson City. The state capitol has many historical artifacts and paintings inside, as well as its spectacular ceiling, the 120 foot silver (painted) cupola.
Your walking tour around the capitol building should include a visit to the Kit Carson statue. The statue, along with pieces commemorating other important figures in Nevada history, can be found in the promenade between the capitol building and the legislative building.
