Tucked away in a region of southeastern Nevada, Basin and Range National Monument is always open to visitors. The monument is protected by the Nevada Bureau of Land Management and admission and camping are completely free and available to all.
Basin and Range was only the second national monument to be created in Nevada when it was proclaimed so by President Barack Obama under the Antiquities Act. Before then, Senator Harry Reid and Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada worked hard to protect this incredible area through legislation.
The pristine setting is a great example of what nature is like when it's left alone. It also makes for a great escape when you feel like getting away from the hustle. Hiking, mountain biking, camping, stargazing, and off-roading are all popular activities within the monument.
In addition to the remarkable flora and fauna, Basin and Range is a reminder of the rich cultural history that's existed here for millennia. Look closely for the countless examples of indigenous and Native American rock art that's approximately 4,000 years old.
