Nebraska is pretty far from the Deep South, but we can still feel like we’re dining there. This Southern-style restaurant serves the type of comfort food you’ll remember if you’ve ever traveled to Louisiana or surrounding states. It’s in Nebraska’s largest city, but it will make you feel like you’ve stepped into a friendly little hometown joint.
Mouth of the South opened in 2014 in the historic Florence district of Omaha. The restaurant is dedicated to bringing scratch-made southern and Cajun cuisine to the fine people of Nebraska.
One thing that's remained the same since the day the restaurant first opened is the mouthwatering array of treats you'll find here. This plate of shrimp and grits is possibly the perfect southern offering.
There are plenty of flavors that will appeal to Nebraskans - even those who have never been south of the Plains. This catfish filet served with fries and slaw is a lot like the food you could find in any Nebraska eatery, but with a bit of a Cajun twang.
Even mac and cheese, that American favorite that everyone seems to love, makes an appearance on the menu. It's perfectly creamy with well-balanced flavors that will have you licking the dish after you've eaten it all.
