12 Things That Make People From Small Town Nebraska The Best People
People from Nebraska are the best in general, but there’s something special about small-town Nebraskans, don’t you think? These are a few things that make people from small Nebraska towns stand out from the crowd.
1. They have strong family ties.
Living in a small community, it's important to have a stable support system in place. And since just about everyone is related in a small town, it's pretty easy to have family on your side.
2. They know how important a strong community is.
In some small towns, the people who live within a mile of you are the people you'll spend the majority of your time with, whether for work, school, or leisure. Small-town Nebraskans realize how important it is to keep those community ties strong.
3. They've got some great friends looking out for them.
It's next to impossible to be lonely in a small town. There's always someone there to talk to and spend time with. Growing up in a small town has the added advantage of giving you life-long friends you've probably known since kindergarten.
4. They know how to enjoy the simple things.
Like biting into a vine-fresh tomato or watching storm clouds roll in.
5. Almost all of them know how to cook.
Living far away from a city means your dining options are limited. There isn't much of a chance to just run out and grab takeout, so small-town people tend to rely on home cooking more often.
6. They're loyal.
Small-town folks know how important it is to stick with something (and someone) for the long term.
7. They're generous.
If a friend, neighbor, or stranger needs help, people in small towns band together to give it. Pancake feeds are an especially popular way to raise money for those in need.
8. They are stewards of the land.
Not everyone who lives in a small town is a farmer or rancher, of course...but it's safe to say that if you grew up in a small NE town you've been exposed to agriculture from day one, and it's a subject that's close to your heart.
9. They tend to be animal lovers.
Living out in the country gives you the opportunity to interact with animals - whether they're backyard chickens or enormous bulls (or sweet little cows like the ones above). Animal lovers tend to be gentle-natured people.
10. They're all kinds of outdoorsy.
Living out away from the big cities, there aren't a lot of opportunities for fine dining or world-class nightlife...but that doesn't really matter. Because small-town folks have the best entertainment there is: nature.
11. They're honest.
When you live in a town where literally everyone knows you and sees what you do, it tends to keep you honest. Because if you aren't, everyone will know pretty soon anyway.
12. They're resourceful and handy.
What is it about small-town living that makes people more likely to do their own handyman chores? Whatever the reason is, small-town people seem to have a knack for making do and making things better.
Sure, these are stereotypes that won’t apply to every person living in a small town in Nebraska, but we’ve seen these qualities in enough people to know how common they are. What other common qualities have you recognized in the good people of small-town Nebraska? Let us know in the comments.
