The Nebraska Store That’s In The Middle Of Nowhere But So Worth The Journey

The tiny village of Madrid in southwestern Nebraska is located at least 30 minutes from any major cities. In most towns of this size, that would mean at least a 30-minute drive to get to a store for necessities. In this little town – population 231 – the residents are lucky enough to have their very own general store.

We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life as we all practice social and physical distancing. While we’re continuing to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, we don’t expect or encourage you to go check them out immediately. We believe that supporting local attractions is important now more than ever and we hope our articles inspire your future adventures! And on that note, please nominate your favorite local business that could use some love right now:

The Madrid General Store is located at 302 S Perkins Avenue in Madrid. It’s open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Fresh baked goods are available on Thursdays.

While you’re in the area, check out the village of Sutherland. It’s not too far from Madrid, and it’s the perfect place to relax.
