Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area lies 8 miles northeast of Ogallala, Nebraska. It is managed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and has successfully become the setting for various kinds of outdoor activities. Lake McConaughy—or Lake Mac, as it is known to most Nebraskans and residents of neighboring states—is the largest lake in Nebraska.

At full storage, Lake Mac is 4 miles wide, 20 miles long, and 142 feet deep. It offers calm waters, natural white sand beaches, and makes a wonderful place for camping, relaxation, and recreation for friends and family.

Most people turn to Lake Mac for boating and fishing. This explains why it is a favorite among water lovers, including sail boaters, swimmers, scuba divers, windsurfers, and water skiers. It is also the only place in Nebraska to find fish that grow to trophy proportions.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission requires reservations for camping. Depending on your needs and activity preferences, you can opt for their private lake campgrounds, state lake campgrounds, or other Keith Co. Campgrounds.

Lake Mac also offers the Bayside Golf Course. It features native grasses, rolling hills, and a par 34 front nine. You will also find a 10,000 square clubhouse fitted with a restaurant, full bar, meeting rooms, and pro shop.
