Get The Most Unexpected Hot Dogs In Nebraska At Fauxmaha Hot Dogs
Hot dogs are one of those always-popular foods that everyone seems to love. Until now, it’s been difficult for people who don’t (or can’t) eat meat and dairy to get the full gourmet hot dog experience – but there’s one tiny restaurant in Omaha that has changed all of that.
Fauxmaha Hot Dogs got its start as a cute little food trailer back in 2015. For years, it popped up at festivals and could be seen parked at various venues around Omaha.
The early response to these totally animal product-free meals was overwhelmingly positive. Owner Mick Ridgway poured a ton of time and energy into creating his very own handmade vegan dogs, and his customers were blown away.
What other restaurant can say that their hot dogs are made from scratch right there in the kitchen? The dogs are made of a blend of seitan (or "wheat meat") and tofu. After being steamed to perfection, they're nestled into a fresh egg-free and dairy-free bun and smothered with your favorite toppings.
If the terms are unfamiliar to you, don't worry - that doesn't mean you won't love these dogs! Plenty of meat-eaters eat the vegan treats just because they taste
Fauxmaha took a leap and opened a brick-and-mortar restaurant in 2019. Those familiar with the vegan mecca Modern Love may recognize this little building: it's where that restaurant was located until its big move to Midtown Crossing.
The food is just as delicious as it was when served from a little trailer. In fact, it seems that having a permanent location has allowed the little business to experiment with different flavor combinations.
The menu contains a small but well-rounded offering of vegan goodness. Get the classic dog if you're filled with nostalgia, or try out the bahn mi dog if you're feeling adventurous. When available, you can add a vegan chili topping to your dog, too!
Fauxmaha has expanded into other tasty street foods since opening its permanent location. Now you can order a seitan Philly, a sausage parm grinder, a barbecurl sandwich, or a breakfast burrito. And don't you dare leave without an order of tots and Fox Sauce - the tots are the best
ever, and the Fox Sauce is a delicious savory dip that complements the tots perfectly.
This is not the kind of place where you need to feel shy or constrained by the menu. If you want something different than the standards, feel free to let the person behind the counter know. They'll be more than happy to, say, forget the bun and plop that Philly "steak" right on top of your tots.
Stop by between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. every Saturday for the most delicious afterparty food in town. In the true food truck spirit, Fauxmaha offers up interesting specials during the late-night hours. A recent favorite is the vegan "garbage plate," consisting of pretty much all of your favorite savory comfort foods (veganized, of course) all heaped up in a pile.
Whether you want to be healthier, lighten your environmental footprint, or just taste something new and amazing, Fauxmaha is 100% worth a visit. Find out more about this unique restaurant on its
