Happy birthday, Nebraska! Exactly 149 years ago, President Andrew Johnson signed Nebraska into statehood. In honor of our state’s birthday, we thought we would give you a few reminders on why Nebraska is actually the best state in the country.

10. We're in the top 10 when it comes to best ACT composite scores in the nation.

9. With an 89.89% high school graduation rate, we're in the top 10 there, too.

8. We're in the top 10 for overall quality of life.

7. We have the second lowest unemployment rate in the nation.

6. ...And we're ranked as one of the top 10 states for businesses and business people.

5. Many important inventions came from Nebraska: the strobe light, the folding election booth, Vise Grips, and of course Kool-Aid, among others.

4. We have amazing entertainment, including a zoo that's consistently rated as the best in the world.

3. Nebraska is consistently ranked among the top three best states to live in.

2. We have some pretty great people here.

1. The raw natural beauty of our state is remarkable. From the majestic bluffs to the rolling sandhills to the magical spectacle of the annual crane migration, this is one beautiful state.
