Niagara Falls is one of the country's most iconic waterfalls, and it's definitely the most popular one in New York. But here in Washington, we actually have a few waterfalls that are taller in height, like Snoqualmie Falls -- and as of 2014, we have an "official" state waterfall, the majestic Palouse Falls. The official state waterfall of Washington is absolutely breathtaking.
Located near Washtucna, Palouse Falls State Park is the gem of Eastern Washington.
The highlight, of course, is the 198-foot waterfall surrounded by dramatic cliffs.
To put it in perspective, Niagara Falls is only 167 feet high.
In 2014, Washington designated Palouse Falls as the official state waterfall. The idea came from a group of students at Washtucna Elementary School.
It was a pretty solid idea, though, right?
The waterfall is easily accessible by a short mile-long hiking path.
The park boasts a 105-acre camping area with 11 tent spaces, all of which are first-come, first-served. Spend a night under the stars and soak up all of Washington's splendid beauty. Nothing beats it.
At the end of the last ice age, the Missoula Floods swept across Eastern Washington and carved out many of the spots we see today, like this one.
Palouse Falls is definitely one of the magnificent and lasting remnants of these glacial floods.
If you've never seen Washington's Niagara Falls, you're really missing out.
