Winter may seem like a lifetime away, yet the Farmer's Almanac has already released its predictions for the season. And unfortunately, Virginia residents are in for even more cold, wet, and precipitation than normal. While almost everyone can appreciate a good snowfall during the winter, this year's forecast may involve more freezing rain than anything else. Here's more on what you can expect for the 2017-2018 winter in Virginia:
According to predictions for the 2017-208 winter season, the Southeast is in for above average precipitation.
Official Almanac Weather Prognosticator base their predictions on the moon and its influence on the tides. These predictions have been a crucial source of weather information since the 1800s.
Here in Virginia, that will translate into some snowfall, plenty of freezing rain, and according to the Almanac, "unseasonable chill."
Virginia isn't the only state in for a full dose of winter, and there are plenty of other areas facing much harsher winter predictions.
States along the Atlantic Seaboard can expect the most winter precipitation for the dates of January 20-23, February 4-7, February 16-19, and March 20-23.
It's never too early to begin shopping for those cozy socks, sweaters, and winter gear!
While these predictions may seem bleak, at least we're fortunate enough to live in a state where all seasons are gorgeous.
