No matter how much water you pack in your trusty Camelback, hiking on a hot day can feel positively scorching. Well, there is a hike in Vermont that will give you the chilly breeze you need to keep going. Head to Walllingford to hike the White Rocks Ice Bed trail in VT which is super cool... Literally!
The White Rocks Ice Bed Trail in Wallingford is a 3 mile, in and out trail that is considered moderately challenging.
The trail brings you to pile of rocks at the base of a hill, and they have a secret beneath them.
Under the rubble is winter ice, which is trapped so deep that the rocks protect the ice and give off a chilly breeze from beneath.
Yes, even in the summer!
For even more adventures here, keep going beyond the end of the trail for just a bit. There is a mountainside of quartz boulders that makes for excellent rock hopping!
The trail isn't all rocks, though. There are areas of lovely wildflowers, too.
And the fall foliage is spectacular!
When you're hiking up, don't miss the turnoff on the left about .3 miles along the way. The views are fantastic!
To get to this White Rocks Ice Bed Trail from Wallingford take Route 140 East to the White Rocks Picnic Area and parking lot.
Follow the blue trail signs which are located not far from the parking lot and get ready for an adventure!
