Struggling to find all the fresh produce you love at grocery stores? If you live in the Houston area, Urban Harvest Farmers Market is offering a drive-thru service for their fresh, local goodies. From vibrant, organic beets to raw honey, fresh-squeezed juice to healthy prepackaged meals, you can get all the essentials without leaving your vehicle.
Founded in 1994, Urban Harvest is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to "enrich the lives, soils, and plates of all Houstonians." Their farmers markets support over 70 vendors who offer organic produce, meat, artisan breads, and many more products, all of which come from within 180 miles of the city.
As of April 11, the market is offering drive-thru pickup of its fresh produce from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays. The line is located on the highest level of the market's parking garage.
Drive-thru service orders must be placed online with a purchase minimum of $10. Upon arrival, your items will be placed into your vehicle in a contactless fashion.
Fruits and veggies aren't the only items available for pickup. Eggs, baked goods, local honey, and many more goodies known and loved by the community can be ordered, as well.
You'll also see prepackaged meals and snacks as well as freshly-squeezed juices on the drive-thru list. Rest assured your family won't have to go without any staple groceries during this unprecedentedly difficult time.
You can still peruse the open-air market between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m., but new protocols have been implemented to ensure the safety of both shoppers and vendors. Customers are encouraged to utilize the three handwashing stations interspersed across the grounds and practice appropriate social distancing.
There will also be no self-service or picking through items -- vendors, who are all required to wear gloves and change them often, will handle everything. Hot foods are strictly to-go, and cashless payments are strongly recommended.
