Wintertime in South Dakota can be downright brutal, so we have learned how to get creative in staying warm. While opting for staying home is always an option, you may crave something a bit more fun and exciting, which is where the Evans Plunge Hot Springs in South Dakota comes into play:
Located in the aptly named town of Hot Springs, Evans Plunge is arguably one of the most unique hot springs in America, thanks to its exciting on-site features.
While Evans Plunge is a fun recreational attraction for many, it was once a vital source of water for South Dakota's first residents, with the Lakota referring to the spring as "wiwila kata" (warm waters).
By the mid-19th century, new settlers began to consume the mineral water as well and, in 1890, built Evans Plunge, which was intended to be a place for people to come and be cured of their ailments but quickly transformed into a famous recreation center.
When you visit Evans Plunge today, you will discover surprises that are both relaxing and exciting, beginning with pools that reach a comfortable 87 degrees.
Are you or someone in your party a thrillseeker? Lucky for you/them, there is more to Evans Plunge than just the pools, as the center also houses four different slides with varying sizes and speeds.
In addition to all of the above, Evans Plunge is also home to swing rings, water basketball and volleyball, an outdoor pool and slide, concessions, a workout room, and more.
