Calling all fossil lovers! What could be more fun than a half day of visiting some of the best hidden spots in the Lowcountry for finding ancient treasures from the land and sea? Whether you're an avid, experienced collector, or are just learning the ropes, you'll find high adventure on the South Carolina half-day kayak fossil tour offered by Charleston Fossil Adventures.
The team behind the tour takes great pride in discovering where to find treasure troves of fossils in the waters around the Lowcountry. And on this half-day tour, you'll be privy to their insightful guidance to places already deemed to be rich in fossil finds.
The half-day tour on the rivers that flow into the waterway and harbor around Charleston is suitable for ages 10 and over.
You'll need to have at least one adult for each person under the age of 16.
Not an experienced kayaker? That's no problem. The guides will get you set up and ready to learn as you go.
Be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen as well as water to stay hydrated, particularly in warmer seasons. Most people also bring a snack... and at times, bug spray is a must.
Tour participants are outfitted with a handy apron in which to stash your finds as you search and even dig for treasured relics from the past. On a recent tour, a fossil seeker tipped the scale with a ton of unique finds. That piece in the top left in the photo here is a whale vertebrae - complete with part of the rib still attached!
Prepare to get very dirty. If you have mud boots... even better... bring 'em. You'll pull off the rivers into places that require a bit of finesse in navigating through muddy terrain and boots will make it much easier.
Even the kids will love this fun day trip! Imagine the show and tell presentations they'll make at school after scoring some hard-to-find fossils.
The half-day Fossil Adventure lasts five hours and is for those aged 10 and over. Expect to be paddling for approximately 30 minutes, each way. Your booking includes, kayak, paddle, life vest, and safety gear.
Ready to book your adventure? So are we! The current cost is $119/age 16 and over, and $85 for youth age 10-15. The tour capacity is eight people. Learn more and book your tour at this link on the official website!
