In a state known for its abundance of tasty seafood, it's tough to claim that any single restaurant has the best in Rhode Island. But when it comes to the most variety of unique options, the answer is often Fluke in Newport. Not only is the seafood here sustainable and perfectly prepared, but the menu often includes options most of us have never heard of.
Fluke is owned by two Rhode Island natives, Jeff Callaghan and Geremie Callaghan, who have a passion for food, wine, and all things Newport.
Jeff is the wine expert, while Geremie oversees daily operations. Jerri Banks, a friend and consultant, created the cocktail list.
The concept here has always been pretty simple: serve fresh, locally caught fish and other seafood whenever possible.
While this isn't a unique vision in Rhode Island, this place certainly has a one-in-a-million vibe, thanks in part to the menu variety.
Fluke Newport is the perfect place to come for a date night, birthday, or other celebration.
But you certainly don't need a special reason to dine here — this is fine dining in a laid-back setting.
Chef Eddie Montalvo, who joined the team in 2018, has been cooking since he was 16 years old.
After he went to culinary school and spent years in the industry perfecting his craft, he wound up at Fluke (and the patrons are thankful).
Not only is the seafood here sustainable, fresh, and often local, but it's quite diverse.
You'll find things like scallops and shellfish on the menu, but also unique options like monkfish, skate, swordfish, and (of course) fluke. And since the menu rotates often, you never know what you'll be able to order.
And if you don't eat seafood, don't worry — there are always meat and vegetarian entrees available as well.
Seafood is the specialty here, but it's far from the only delicious dinner option.
Fluke is a fantastic dining option in any season — but note that they do close from early January until mid-February.
That still leaves the majority of the year to have a meal at this beloved place. When they open, they'll be serving dinner from 5 to 9 p.m.
Reservations are available as soon as Fluke opens for the year. Make yours here.
