Rhode Island isn't a huge state, but there is still plenty to explore. If you've been looking for a great day outdoors with a hike and rock formations, you'll enjoy Gray Craig Trail and all it has to offer. Mark this one down for a future day trip, because the beauty out here is worth the work. Are you up for an adventure today? Come check it out!
Welcome to today's adventure, a day trip out to Normal Bird Sanctuary, to visit Gray Craig Trail.
This 1.8 mile hike is rated as easy, and doesn't have much of an elevation gain despite the trail's features. It's plenty short enough for a hike that'll keep you busy without taking up your whole day.
The coolest part of this out-and-back trail are the rock formations that run along the ground, create ridges, and plenty of places to clamber over.
Where the rocks jut over the ground, they are unique and fun to explore. Patterns in the rock and wildlife spotting opportunities are a big part of the wonders of a good hike.
The rocky areas of the trail are a bit slippery if it's recently rained, so keep your steps sure and make sure the weather is right before you head out. It's also nice and quiet, so you really get to enjoy your connection with nature during your visit.
Whether you come for the rocks or the adventure, make sure to never leave anything behind on the trail. We want to keep everything as natural as possible, including making sure that not even food waste gets left here.
If you'd like to see the whole trail, check out the Gray Craig Trail AllTrails page. There, you can find a trail map, weather forecast, and reviews of the trail from recent hikers.
