Rhode Island has some incredible hiking routes. From the world famous cliff walk to the Sachets Point National Wildlife Refuge Trail, this small state has an impressive amount of 5 star hikes. However, if you are looking for a different kind of route, and want to explore Narragansett a different way, grab your kayak and head on over to the Narrow River Kayak Route where you can spend the day exploring the area from a new vantage point.
There are four kayak launch sites along the Narrow River. This route starts at Pollock Road in South Kingston, Rhode Island.
Enjoy gazing at the waterfront homes as you paddle up the Narrow River. The residents will be jealous of your adventure as they see you pass by!
There are also plenty of places to pull over to take a rest or have a snack along the water.
You'll keep paddling north, zig zagging up the river until you hit Bridgetown, Rhode Island. You'll know you are there when you hit Bridgetown Road crossing over the river. Its about 2.5 miles to this point.
Many people turn around when they hit Bridgetown Road. However, if you are ready to explore even more, you can keep heading north up the Narrow River. From this point, the river is much wider than beginning part of your paddle.
Be sure too keep an eye out for bigger boats on the water! While you may get lucky and have this amazing route to yourself, company comes along every once in a while!
The Narrow River Kayak Route is a fun and different way to explore this area of Rhode Island. The river is pleasantly narrow until you reach Bridgetown Road, giving you a special look at both sides of the river as you paddle along. Be sure to let us know if you've paddled the Narrow River!
