These hikes offer all the beauty and natural tranquility of an epic hike while not requiring an all-day outing or any special outdoors skills. All you need is the desire to explore the outdoors – and maybe a few snacks! Here are five family hikes you should experience in Rhode Island.
1. Cliff Walk, Newport
Stroll as long as you like on this popular path in Newport. The full trail runs seven miles, but even a shorter outing rewards hikers with some outstanding seashore views.
Allow time to take in the waterfront!
2. Rome Point Trail
This trail will take you past wildflowers and along a waterfront that has oyster beds. You’ll find it near Saunderstown.
3. Lincoln Woods Trail
This lakefront trail is near Lincoln and it provides a tranquil and shaded hiking experience that’s good for all ages. Allow a little extra time to explore the park’s rocks and ruins!
4. East Bay Bike Path
This pleasant path in Providence traces the waterfront. It’s a tranquil trail – just be careful at road crossings.
5. Stepstone Falls
Take in the beauty of a waterfall on this trail near West Greenwich, Rhode Island. The falls are near a parking area – extend the hike to enjoy the park’s woodland tranquility.
