If you want to do some wandering this summer (or spring), these are some great places around town to do just that. This mix of boardwalks and promenades is just what you need to explore some of the most beautiful areas around town.
1. Eastbank Esplanade
If you are on the east side, this is the place to go. Along the Willamette, you will have a great view of downtown, and at 1.5 miles, it's a perfect length for a leisurely stroll.
2. Tom McCall Waterfront Park
For a longer walk, combine the Eastbank Esplanade with the Waterfront Park by crossing the Hawthorne and Steel Bridges, and you have a lovely day activity. At 2.7 miles long, the paved trail is flat and relatively easy.
3. Jamison Square
Head over to the Pearl for a short boardwalk and enjoy cooling off in the fountain at Jamison Square while you are there. Be warned: if it is hot, the fountain will be teeming with children.
4. Portland Japanese Garden
Featuring many lovely trails, the Japanese Garden also has a short boardwalk along the water that is perfect for a quiet stroll.
5. Elizabeth Caruthers Park
This recently completed park in the South Waterfront features boardwalk paths, and is a quaint slice of nature right in the heart of the recently bustling district.
6. Cedar Mills Falls
Down in Beaverton, there is nice, though short boardwalk that connects you to the small but picturesque Cedar Mills Falls, along with a some benches for picnicking.
7. South Waterfront
While only a quarter mile of the South Waterfront stretch is complete, this is an enjoyable section of trail that is perfect on a sunny day. Pair it with a ride on the aerial tram, and you have the makings of a lovely day.
