Now's the perfect time to go exploring. (Well, anytime's really a good time to explore PA, wouldn't you say?) But, because Pennsylvania boasts so many hiking trails, choosing which one to conquer next can be a little intimidating. Good news: if you're on the lookout for a scenic hike that will keep you shaded from the heat of the sun, this picturesque, shady trail will lead you along a flowing creek and to scenic overlooks with sweeping views.
Pack all of your hiking gear - and plenty of water, too - and travel to Allegheny National Forest, a natural wonder that spans more than half a million acres.
Then, lace up your hiking boots to start exploring along the popular Minister Creek Trail.
Rated as moderate, the 6.6 mile loop trail will lead you from the Minister Creek Campground to an undeveloped area and back.
So, follow the gray markers that will take you alongside Minister Creek, past large rock formations, and to several scenic overlooks.
Enjoy the shade from the towering trees as you climb up rock stairs. And, keep an eye out for local wildlife that live in the forest.
Dip your feet in the cool water of Minister Creek. Or, go fishing for brook trout in the creek.
And, drink in the spectacular views from the scenic overlooks along the trail.
Minister Creek Trail can be done as a loop. But, if you want to keep hiking instead of making the loop, the trail connects to North Country National Scenic Trail. (Follow the blue diamonds.)
Allegheny National Forest is located in Marienville, PA 16239.
