Just north of Albany, the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway, which runs along the Mohawk River, is the perfect road to cruise down if you're looking to get in the fall mood. It extends 26.2 miles, from downtown Schenectady to Waterford.
3. Clarence Fahnestock State Park
Over 14,000 acres of natural beauty make this park a must-see, especially come fall. It's also got some of the best hiking trails, campgrounds and fishing in the region.

4. Prospect Park
The concrete jungle can't always prevent you from experiencing the beauty of the outdoors. Central Park is a well-known destination, but Brooklyn's Prospect Park boasts some incredible fall color of its own.
5. High Falls Gorge
High Falls Gorge is one of the most popular destinations in the Adirondacks. A 22-acre park full of waterfalls and incredible views is all you need for an adventurous weekend in October.
6. Bear Mountain Park
This massive park of over 5,000 acres sits just north of New York City on the Hudson River. If you're looking for an accessible hiking area full of stunning overlooks, this is your destination.
7. Western New York Southtowns Scenic Byway
This scenic byway in western New York makes for a drive as gorgeous as you could ask for.
There are plenty of charming small towns to visit along the way. If you're taking the Western New York Southtowns Scenic Byway, stop in Ellicottville and tour its quaint downtown. Brought to you by the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, this 1 hour and 1/2-long train ride takes you over the Moose River and through the Adirondack Park to Otter Lake. Leaving from Thendara Station, this ride will give you a look at our foliage and areas of the park that you've never quite seen before. The vintage train car features a Cafe cart where you can get some light fare, and of course, you can do some shopping at the gift shop in the Thendara train station. This is one of the most scenic train rides in New York, so check it out this season.

2. Catskill Mountain Railroad
Another amazing railroad to ride, the Catskill Mountain Railroad offers amazing train rides during the fall season. There are two different train rides to choose from. You can enjoy the Fall Foliage Adventure from late September to mid-October, and for the Pumpkin Express, take a ride in late October. Hop onboard any one of these rides and you'll get to enjoy being in a vintage coach that'll fill you with nostalgia. For the Catskill Mountain Railroad Pumpkin Express rides, you'll actually get to stop and pick your own pumpkin to take home with you!
