Highlands Trail (Teal) is a 1.5-mile hike that will take you to a stunning overlook in Allamuchy Mountain State Park, near Byram Township.
The hike is rated as “moderate,” which means there are some tricky bits and strenuous portions. However, the trail is also lightly trafficked, so you can expect to have some solitude on the path.
You’ll start out hiking through dense forest along a rocky trail. Though you’ll only gain about 350 feet in elevation, you should be prepared to watch where you step.
Finally, as you reach the end of the hike, you’ll be rewarded with a jaw-dropping view out over Allamuchy Mountain State Park’s sprawling woodlands.
This overlook is the perfect spot to stop to catch your breath, enjoy a snack or two, and just generally soak up the beautiful atmosphere and fresh air.
