Nevada's outstanding natural beauty is something that everybody should be able to enjoy no matter how young, old, or fit you may be. Located right along Lake Tahoe's eastern shore is an accessible hiking trail that acknowledges just that. The 3-mile trail boasts stupendous views of the lake and meets ADA standards for its entirety, so everybody can enjoy access to one of Nevada's greatest gems. Check it out:
Running right along the East Shore of Lake Tahoe is a scenic and accessible trail for cyclists, hikers, beachgoers, and pedestrians. The Tahoe East Shore Trail is great for an assortment of activities and is definitely worth checking out!
The 3-mile long trail is open for walking, rolling, running, or riding. Featuring a 10-foot wide paved path, its accessibility has made it a favorite for visitors who'd like to experience the magical beauty of Lake Tahoe's eastern shore.
Parking can easily be found at the northern end of the trail - keep in mind that roadside parking along SR 28 is prohibited. A shuttle, the East Shore Express, is also available to pick visitors up at the old Incline Elementary School or the Sand Harbor Visitors Center for just a small fee.
The first mile of the Tahoe East Shore Trail winds along the mountainside of the highway. It boasts extraordinary views of Lake Tahoe that you can't get anywhere else. Some sections of the trail are a tad steep but never reach more than an 8% grade.
The trail features 16 different vista points so you can stop and really take in the view. Do be sure to follow proper trail etiquette by staying on the right and passing on the left when exploring the trail. Cyclists must also yield to hikers.
Hikers can also enjoy 11 different beach access points for getting right down to the lake's waters, including access to the popular Hidden Beach. Bring a towel and suit for a swim or simply treat yourself to a close-up look of Tahoe's brilliant blue waters.
