Since fall has officially arrived, we’re all waiting for the lush green of the landscape to transform into hues of red, orange, and gold. Like all good things, the fall foliage remains for just a short time before the leaves flutter down to the ground. Here’s when you might expect the fall foliage in Missouri, including predicted peak dates.
Every autumn the Smoky Mountains website releases its Fall Foliage Predication Map for the United States.
The map allows us to see when the leaves will start changing and when they’ll reach their peak. That makes it easier for us to make our outdoor and leaf peeping plans.
As of the weekend of September 28, 2020, the Missouri landscape still pretty much looks like it did all summer – predominately green. The northern part of the state, however, might start seeing a smattering of color this week, according to Smoky Mountains.
By the week of October 5, the colors will start flourishing in Northern Missouri while they’ll just start appearing in Southern Missouri.
If you’re in Northern Missouri and want to see the fall foliage at its very best, make your leaf peeping plans for the week of October 19 (near peak) or October 26 (peak). If you wait until the week of November 2, you’ll miss out.
That leaves Southern Missouri, where the near peak and peak are a week later than Northern Missouri. The best time to view the near peak fall foliage will be the week of October 26 while the week of November 2 features the peak fall foliage.
