The Can’t-Miss Mississippi Hike for Every Nature Lover’s Bucket List

Here in Mississippi, we're blessed with an abundance of beautiful hikes. And while there are plenty of epic trails to enjoy, we sometimes prefer those that are a bit off the beaten path. Tucked away within the Homochitto National Forest, you'll find one of the state's best hiking trails: Richardson Creek Trail. It may not boast stunning mountain overlooks or mesmerizing natural wonders, but this trail is stunning in its own right. With a well-maintained path, towering trees, and understated beauty, this hike is one that you'll return to time and time again, whether you're a hiking enthusiast or someone who enjoys a long stroll through the woods.

Those seeking solitude and quality time in nature will find a lot to appreciate about Richardson Creek Trail. This trail is a long one, clocking in at 8.6 miles if you're looking to complete the entire loop. Hikers will enjoy the lovely terrain of the Clear Springs Recreation Area.

You should also note that this trail experiences quite a bit of elevation — nearly 1,000 feet if you complete the loop. Bring plenty of water, especially if you plan to visit during the summer. And be sure to take plenty of breaks to admire your surroundings. The trees here are simply amazing; you'll enjoy a range of young pines, hardwoods, and massive old-growth trees.

This trail, though popular, doesn't get too busy, especially if you plan on hiking during the off-season. It's open year-round and it's also dog-friendly (as long as your pup is on a leash!).
