Milwaukee is full of beauty, nature, and history. Wherever you go, you're sure to find beautiful scenery that will take your breath away. This one place, however, will have you seeing The Good Land from new heights! Whether you're looking to be enriched by history, have your jaw drop from views, or learn more about this local treasure, this spot is unlike any other in the city.
Welcome to North Point Lighthouse!
This stunning lighthouse has been guiding ships home since 1855.
The lighthouse consists of a 74-foot tower and a building called the Keeper's Quarters.
Located in Lake Park, this building is the oldest in the area. The Queen Anne-style architecture is preserved to this day, surrounded by two acres of wooded land.
This place isn't just beautiful, there's a lot of history behind it.
Before it was decommissioned in 1994, the North Point Lighthouse was a major contributor to Milwaukee's economic growth. Waterways were once used as highways between cities, and none of this would have been possible without lighthouses such as North Point.
Not only is the lighthouse itself drawing in visitors, Lake Park holds a strong significance to Milwaukee.
Milwaukee's East Side is a neighborhood loved by many, and we're all familiar with the beauty of Lake Park. Some might not know that the park was conceived by Frederick Law Olmsted, a famous 19th century landscape architect who also designed New York's Central Park.
Today, the Keepers Quarters doubles as a museum, teaching visitors about the life of those who maintained the lighthouse and the history of the Great Lakes.
This museum is a Blue Star Museum, meaning all military citizens, whether active duty or retired, are able to see the exhibits for free.
These rotating exhibits feature many different unique insights into maritime life.
You'll find everything from original lighthouse ledgers, to artifacts from significant events in Milwaukee maritime history, as well as the story behind the lights.
North Point Lighthouse has been preserved in its 20th century beauty, all thanks to volunteers!
North Point Lighthouse Friends, Inc. is a group of volunteers dedicated to preserving the history of the Lighthouse. In 2007, they undertook a complete restoration of the buildings so that we can visit it today.
Whether you're looking to relax, learn, or explore Milwaukee from new heights, North Point Lighthouse will always guide the way.
North Point Lighthouse is located at 2650 N. Wahl Avenue in Milwaukee and is open Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 4pm
