It's not every day that you can enjoy a great brew while also taking in the beauty of the great outdoors. Unless you're in Maine. If that's the case, you can do it every day by heading to Oxford County, which is just about an hour from Portland. Here, you'll find an outpost of one of the state's most beloved breweries. This one, just slightly off the beaten path is extra-special because it offers trails at a brewery right here in Maine.
Oxbow Beer Garden in Oxford is one of Oxbow's three locations located throughout Maine. But the others, in Newcastle and Portland, don't quite stir the same excitement in our outdoors-loving souls that this one does!
Sitting in a renovated barn dating back 200 years, visitors will find a taproom and a restaurant here.
There are lots of cozy spots to spend an afternoon with friends.
And the menu, full of wood-fired, naturally-leavened pizza made with local grains and toppings, will keep you full the entire time.
The toppings are always fun and unique, like this version with smoked chicken, grilled corn, pickled fresnos, cheddar cheese, and basil.
You'll need the energy to enjoy the miles of Nordic trails right outside. Previously known as "Carter’s XC Ski" the trails are free to use and offer lots of activity options.
Visitors can bring their own gear or rent Nordic skis, fat bikes, and snowshoes from the Portland Gear Hub right on-site.
If you love the Maine outdoors, this is a must-visit.
It's easy to make an entire day out of it. Enjoy lunch, grab a beer, take to the trails and then enjoy some time outside to wind down. No matter what the season, this is a great place to remember just how great Maine can be!
Oxbow Beer Garden is open Wednesday through Friday from 4 p.m to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. They're closed on Monday and Tuesday, which is just as well because you'll need to rest after a weekend of fun. You can learn more about this location and the others by checking out their website and by following them on Facebook. They can be reached at 207-539-5178.
And while you're in the area consider heading a little further up the road for more fun. This small stretch of shops and restaurants in Maine offers the perfect way to spend an afternoon.
