The Woodlands Conservancy is a wonderful hidden gem tucked away in Belle Chasse.
The site seeks to preserve and restore the wetlands that are so important to Louisiana, while simultaneously providing a natural habitat for animals.
There are over 10 miles of hiking trails to explore.
From bird watching to nature photography to exploring a unique piece of history, these trails are truly beautiful.
History lovers and nature enthusiasts alike with love the Bottomland Trail.
The trail is roughly six miles long and is actually a set of parallel trails, one for hikers and another for equestrians.
At the end of the trail, you’ll see a grouping of WW11 ammunition magazines.
There are ten ammunition magazines in total, left over from when the area was occupied by our military.
The magazines were also used during the Korean War and then a portion of the property was given to the state in 1963.
Virtually untouched from when they were in use, you can poke your head in and look around. It's not every day that you stumble across a piece of history while out on a hike!
You can find the Woodlands Conservancy at 449 F Edward Hebert Blvd., Belle Chasse, LA 70037.
