Sometimes you just need to break away from your daily routine and spend some time reconnecting with nature. There are plenty of state parks that would love to host you for a weekend getaway, but you don't always have that kind of time. When you're looking for a quick outing to surround yourself with some peaceful natural settings, Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park is just the ticket, and it's great for all ages. Let's take a closer look.
The Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park is easily one of the most underrated nature parks in Louisiana.
Established in 1971, Shreveport’s hidden gem is a 160-acre natural oasis just waiting to be explored.
Five miles of hiking trails will lead you around the park’s pine-oak-hickory forest.
All of the trails include interpretive signs along the way, so you can learn more about the area, including all of the flora, fauna, and wildlife that call the area home.
You'll find yourself immersed in a beautifully forested setting filled with wildlife. Sounds like heaven, right?
After you’ve explored the trails, be sure to check out the visitor center.
Here, you’ll find multiple rooms filled with live animals and hands-on exhibits, making this a great activity for kids.
Not only is it a lovely place to take a peaceful stroll, but it’s also a great place for kid’s birthday parties and special events.
The park is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday and admission is free.
Hours:
Wednesday - Saturday: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Sunday: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
